everything's BIGGER in TEXAS?!?

I was going to Texas for my nephew's baptism and this was my first time believe it or not! I've switched planes in TX but never stayed there overnight. And I was NOT looking forward to it at all. My trip was from Friday-Tuesday and I was not happy about it. I had very low expectations.

First thing when I arrived at DFW, it was off to da kitchen to cook. My sister's husband owns a Tongan/Hawaiian food restaurant out there so we used the facility to do all the cooking. My parents, sister and nieces/nephews were already there and we stayed up all night cooking. Shoot, my parents didnt even sleep at all for 2 days. My nephew Valentino Mahonri Foni was baptised March 5th, 2011 along with 4 other primary kids. It was such a beautiful thing to see. Eating was GREAT!!! Oh how I love Tongan food...and this was YUMMY Tongan food at that! Funny seeing these Texans jump for crab! LoL!

That night my cousins took us to a club/bar called DUKE's. I really liked that spot. First, FREE cover charge. You dont get that much often around here. THEN, a bottle of beer was $4, but a pitcher was $5! Shoot, I was buying pitchers for everyone! LOL! Then my sister bought one of my auntie's a vodka & cranberry. The bartender handed it to her and she said "okay $3". Me and Lucy looked at her confused and said "WHAT? How much??" She repeated herself and asked is something wrong. We was just like DAAAMN! We were expecting to pay Cali prices $8-10 for a drink and it was $3 here!! The music was ON POINT!!! The DJ was playing all the good hits. You can totally tell we were in da South but I didnt mind it. A lot of southern rappers music, chop & screwed stuff. There was only 2 times where I heard CUPID SHUFFLE at a club. Once in Florida, and the 2nd time that night in Texas. MUST BE A SOUTHERN THING!! LoL! My auntie got there a lil later and she tells me... "when they play Cupid Shuffle, you're going with me on da dance floor" Had to break it to her that they already played it. LOL. But when they did play it... EVERYONE went to da dance floor. Then they played this one song. When the beat came in, the place went CRAZY... or CRUNK! lol Everyone litterally stopped what they were doing, put their drinks down and just danced and rapped along. The Californians (Me, sis Loo and cousin Kofe) just looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders like, IDK! haha http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2fFF0aN-jk

One thing I loved about my trip was the time I got to spend with the FAMILY on both sides!! A lot of family came through to show their love & support. In appreciation to everyone's help, my parents took everyone to eat after church on Sunday which was really nice for everyone to come together and enjoy each other's company. Shortly after, my parents were departing back to SFO so it was sad to see them go but we had one more day. Our last day, uncle Sal took us shopping, we had lunch and spent the rest of the time with my nephews. We also went to eat some good ole Texas bbq. I had some really good brisket and beer!

My Uncle Sal & Auntie Michelle were REALLY tryna sell Texas to us. And trust, everything they're talking about sounds great. Housing is Dummy cheap, they all have their own cars, good jobs, Michelle even offered us jobs if we move out there and/or she'll create one. And then she says... Who cares if there's 4 months of horrific, horrible weather! Ummm, i do. Never experienced a Texas summer but I heard it is not the greatest! lol They were humming a good tune... but it's gonna take a lot to get me to move out the Bay and relocate... Especially relocate to Tx.

It was sad cause I didnt want to leave. I really enjoyed my trip. Happy that my low expectations ended up biting me in the ass. I am so very grateful for the wonderful family base I have in Euless/Bedford. I'm already missing them all...especially my adorable nephew I met that weekend Jeremiah! Believe it or not, I wanna go back out there soon and tryna recruit others to join. BEFORE the summer!!! Cousin Caleb has a graduation in June, Tolo has her wedding reception in July...we'll see what happens!
