We've lost so many family and friends to this HORRIBLE disease called Breast Cancer. In 2003, my auntie Atili Unga passed away leaving behind 6 beautiful children. Two of her daughters, Salome & Leilani, decided to join in this year's Avon Breast Cancer walk in San Francisco. Then another cousin, STAR, decided to join... then a couple friends and so on to become "TEAM TATA'ahine". Each walker had to raise $1,800 each. They fundraised and accepted donations to reach their goal. The weekend of July 10-11 was the 39 mile walk. Those who couldnt walk was there to support them in every way. The day of the final walk, we gathered all our family & friends to meet the team at the finish line. There's nothing better than to see your family waiting for you after such a long & hard challenge! We all lined up down the final hill cheering people on as they made the last few steps. It brings tears to your eyes when you see these joggers take the final steps. Crossing with tears remembering the loved ones they lost, some practically limping, holding each other up. FINALLY, we see TEAM TATA'ahine coming down the hill

It was such a beautiful moment!! I was sooooo PROUD of them! We wanted to carry them over the finish line (hahaha) but knew it would mean more if they crossed hand in hand

First thing they did was take off their shoes and started massaging their feet right there. Star had blisters on her feet. Poor Lani had to wrap her feet up in the middle of the 2nd day. It was hard for Lome & Lani to get the energy to get up the 2nd day to complete the walk. The first day was so hard on them because of all the hills they had to do BUT they knew this was ONE thing they wanted to COMPLETE!
I'm so proud of my sisters and Team TATA'ahines! 2011...it's on & crackin!

RIP:: Atili Unga, Trina Tonga Mueller, Ana Kefu, Hina Sanft and Tasha Vimahi
